Lasting Powers Of Attorney

What are they?

Lasting Powers of Attorney are a legal document that you can put in place whilst ever you have the capacity to do so to appoint someone or more than one person to manage your affairs for you should you become incapable of doing so yourself. They can be drawn up for either your financial affairs or your health and welfare. They are separate documents.

Why do a Lasting Power of Attorney?

We would always recommend that anyone over the age of eighteen puts in place a Lasting Power of Attorney. Hopefully you may never need to relay upon the document but if you were unfortunate enough to loose capacity in the future or be unable to manage your affairs yourself the document is there to ensure that the people you have chosen can manage things for you.

The appointment of people to be your attorneys under a Lasting Power of Attorney is an onerous task. You should only appoint people that you trust completely and that will work well with one another if they are appointed to act together.

What will you need at the first appointment?

1. Identification- we are required to get ID documents from all of our clients. Photo ID in the form of a passport/ driving licence, and utility bills to confirm the address. Two copies of ID are required.

2. Details of the person or people that you will be appointing. Their full names address, telephone numbers, date of births, occupations.

3. The legal fees. Payment for a lasting power of attorney is required at the initial appointment to give instructions.
